Filmic Photos

I have always loved film-the magic of cinema-which is probably why my favourite photographers use this style in their work.  From the beaches of Brighton in Martin Parr's work, to scene set ups in Cindy Sherman or Alex Prager's photos, to the amazing filmic lighting in Gregory Crewdson's photography.

I just love the colours, lighting, costumes and sets they use.

These photographs are definitely a reference for my next project

Interesting People

Today a stylish man came in to buy a couple of bags..

As I started talking to him I discovered he is a stylist and works with one of the most sort after stylists in Germany (Mads Ronnborg)

He has worked with magazines, video and editorials.

Here are some photos of his work...

So, even though I haven't got there yet, it's great to talk to people and find out what they do and how they got there.  Perhaps one day I'll be going round to shops buying stock for my clients to style them.

I really love this video on twenty6 magazine’s website.  It is so different to other fashion videos.  So simple and effective.  It has really given me inspiration for my next video.
I hope you like it too.

Dr. Martens

OK OK, I know it has become a bit of a trend recently...EVERYONE seems to have a pair of Doc Martens these days.  I just can't seem to walk down the street in London without seeing a pair on someone...but I just had to buy some myself!

I have a pair of boots from ten or so years back which I still wear to this day, but I wanted to see what was out there, seeing as DMs are making a comeback.

So...here they are!

These are the 1461 Made in England shoes, which a little more money, but the quality is brilliant and they will last me forever.

Now all I need to do is to raid my wardrobe and see what I can wear them with...

In the meantime, here's a short photo history about Doc Martens since their creation in 1960.
Originally the working man's boot, Skinheads throughout 60's to 80's adopted the working style of DM boots

Pete Townsend on tour would go to bed with "A cognac bottle and a Dr. Martens boot"

Forget the checked shirts, in My So-Called Life (1994) Doc Martens were the stars of the show

In 2006 Shane Meadows film This is England in the early 80's when Doc Martens were still a part of the skinhead movement (perhaps this film helped to bring DMs back into the spotlight)
2012 - OK so I'm not going to shave my head or get tattoos all over my arms,  but still Doc Martens have an air of youth culture and rebellion about them

Sophie Hulme

I love Sophie Hulme bags.  With their effortless chic style and masculine edge, they really are ones to invest in.

If like me you are sick of these bags that all look the same at the moment -you know the ones that seem to be with a hobo shape, the Mulberry briefcase or trying to be like the whole 1950’s Grace Kelly/Jackie O style – then Hulme’s Armoured Tote or Mini Satchel is just for you.  It is a good price at around £550 for a tote and because of the bridle leather, they darken over time and become vintage looking.  My favourite colour is the tan one.

More about Sophie Hulme

Graduating from Kingston University in 2007, she won Student of the Year and Best Collection and is stocked in some of the world’s top stores, including Selfridges, Net-A-Porter and Liberty.

Her collections always have a trinket, which is inspired by her ever-expanding collection of charms and toys.  This can range from a chip fork, pen lid to pad lock or lolly pop stick.  (I have the lolly pop stick and really want the chip fork!)

I love that her designs have a story behind them and are inspired by these collectible objects, with craftsmanship at the forefront, keeping classic style and shapes but adapting them to pieces that you can wear them with.
